For those of you that don't know "Blackbird" is the name of our shop/race car. The name just seemed to come about after it's latest colour change (low gloss black). We have used this car for many different things over the years, but most of all as a test and development platform. We are constantly testing new ideas and products and pushing it up to and past it's limits. This is an invaluable tool, which gives us first hand feed back on the limitations of parts and set-ups. On top of all the testing and racing this car does, it is street legal and gets driven regularly. This is important to us, to maintain it's street use, as 99% of our customer cars are street driven. This demonstrates how far a street car can be taking, while still being used as a daily driver. This setup did 12000 kms last summer, while still being raced on a regular basis. We don't build cars for one or two quick runs, we build them for constant regular use on the street and at the track. We are not in any rush to take this car into record breaking times or speeds, that will come in due time. Testing and development takes time and demonstrating durability is all about time, but 10.5 @ 141 mph is not to bad. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 09 UPGRADE: 2009 season video: .. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/ForcePower-BlackBird-2009_717640.htm

The primary upgrade for this season was the "Stage 3" block, with a GT42R turbo we needed a motor that would allow this turbo to perform. It was built to reliably rev to 10,000 rpm week in and week out, it has already completed over a hundred full race runs without any issues. It has actually been reved out to 11,300 rpm under full load as a test, to prove there is room for more. In addition to this, with the help of Turbosmart we upgraded to the "Race Port BOV" and the "Power-Gate 60mm" wastegate. Both of these proved to improve the flow and handle the higher boost levels very well. We were also proud to be the first DSM to run the new Competition Clutch "Twin Disc" this year. This has proved to be the best clutch that we have ever run in the car, performing flawlessly all season. With any high HP high reving car the clutch becomes one of the most important parts of your package. This clutch has taken everything we have thrown at it and disengages at any rpm we chose, with minimal wear over the course of the season. We would like to thank "Competition Clutch, Turbosmart, GoPro, PWR, Kaaz and Blacktop Customs" for there help and support in the continuing testing and development of this car. Plus the on-going support and interest from the S.O.DSM team.
